I'm a Gold Star Chili addict - which is crazy when I think about moving here 13 years ago and trying it and hating it! This is my friend Dan - he said he normally gets 3 cheese coneys so he thought he could handle 2 Big Coneys - and he was mistaken! These things are massive so be prepared!
The Big Coney is also VERY Cincinnati! Why? The hot dog is specially made by
Blue Grass Meats and the buns are from
Klosterman Bakery. Put that together with my favorite Cincinnati chili and we've got a Cincinnati specialty!
The Big Coney is only available until August 1 - so be sure to head to your local Gold Star Chili and get it before it's gone. So good!
The other thing I have to tell you about is this Norwood location - it's really nice - totally new design - and it pays homage to the origins of Gold Star Chili that you might know about. Gold Star Chili was
originally named Hamburger Heaven and started in Mt Washington. So the Norwood location is bringing back burgers to the menu - and I have to say - they are REALLY GOOD burgers! This is the traditional cheeseburger and I shared it and a Big Coney with a friend and the burger is really good!
And I have to tell you about their fries - I got these bacon chili cheese fries with a southwest ranch and sour cream - and holy moly these were amazing! And they're nearly a meal on their own. This is definitely an eat-in meal but everything was so good! The fries are hearty and crispy - the cheese was melty - the chili spicy - the ranch ranchy - the bacon cooked perfectly!!!!
If you think the Gold Star in Norwood is just another Gold Star - think again. Pull over and get these fries!!!! (And that Big Coney - oh now my brain is going - I want a Big Coney with fries and that ranch! Let's work on that!)
